Annual Report – 2012

2012 ANNUAL REPORT

** Please note the below is retrospective – my full writeups start in 2015 **

So 2012 was the year we purchased our house. Here you can see the blank slate that was my backyard. This year I focused on removing trees that were dead, dying or in the way of my orchard plans.

Yes it was a large space but I was informed in no uncertain terms by my wife that I was to be limited to the edges of the property and not permitted to encroach into the center living space.

Elevated view prior to any work

First the dead and dying trees were removed as well as those that would be in conflict with my planting plans.

I then proceeded with a large order from Green Barn Nursery out of Montreal (spoiler alert, many of these plants were miss-labled, died or on unknown rootstock) and it was a race against winter with reception occuring November 20.

This is clearly evident that I was a newbie as usually at that time the ground is frozen solid and there would be no way to get the plants into the frozen soil .   Below is a photo in April 2013 during the melt and you can see the significant areas of standing water.  Much work remains to be done!
